Now here is a real pickle recipe. The old kind, the kind you have to wait for after you make them. Of all the pickles I make, I love bread & butter pickles best. The crunchy cucumbers and all that vinegar--yummy.
This is the easiest recipe I've ever used for pickles....here it is-
You'll need:
3 qt. cucumbers, sliced (10-12 cucumbers)
3 c onions, sliced
2 med green peppers. chopped
1 sweet red pepper, chopped
1/2 c pickling salt
4 c white vinegar
4 c white sugar
2 tsp. turmeric
2 tsp. mustard seed
1 tsp. celery seed
Directions:
1. Combine vegetables with salt; cover with water. Let stand for 12 hours, or cover with ice for 3. Drain well.
2. Combine vinegar, sugar, and spices; bring to a boil.
3. Put together in bottles (hot); seal.
4. Should be left for a month to season.
