In honor of National Fried Scallops Day, I think we needed this recipe to help us celebrate it right. I still believe that no fried fish dinner is complete without it. There is just something about the creamy tangy sauce that goes so nicely with fish. Sure there are many varieties that you can buy in the condiment aisle but since I was already making my own fish sticks I figured why not go for the whole shabang and make my own tartar sauce as well. And now that my taste buds have been awakened by the homemade version, I don’t plan on buying any anytime soon.
When you start experimenting more with cooking you begin to realize that many of the things that you buy pre-made are actually really easy to make on your own. Tartar sauce definitely fits into that category. In fact when I set out to make my own I realized that I already had all of the ingredients. All you need is a little mayo, capers, onion, dill pickle, sweet pickle relish, Dijon mustard, parsley, salt and pepper and you are good to go.
Makes 3/4 cup
Ingredients:
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon capers, drained (optional)
1 tablespoon minced yellow onion
2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
2 teaspoons minced dill pickle (or more to taste)
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
Instructions:
Combine all ingredients together in a bowl. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
Serve.
Enjoy!
